Virtual Reality Therapy

Autism Allies is pleased to offer our clients a new and groundbreaking research-based technology called Floreo, which uses virtual reality to offer a supplementary method of teaching social and communication skills, skills critical but so often lacking in the lives of those diagnosed with autism.

Floreo utilizes a headset worn by the user and offers a supervising adult or ABA therapist the chance to track and monitor their progress. The user is offered a library of fun and engaging lessons which teach a host of social and communication techniques critical for building “real world skills.”

In one such lesson the learner “enters a Safari Park and uses eye gaze to engage in social interactions.” Cause and effect, response to sounds, visual tracking, responding to joint attention, and initiating joint attention are all targeted learning skills in this lesson. In other lessons users learn imitation, gesturing, street crossing, differential responses in friendly versus unfriendly interactions, interpretation of small talk, encounters with the police, classroom and cafeteria social skills, and more. The settings are varied and engaging, offering clients a unique, multi-D means of learning critical skills.
